When playing online online roulette, players must make various wagers prior to the croupier spinning the wheel. There are two main types of bets that can be made. These would be inside bets and outside bets. These names refer to the position of the spaces on the roulette table.

Inside bets are those bets on any of 36 numbered boxes. These boxes are formed from 12 rows and 3 columns. Since the odds are higher for inside bets, they do payout better than outside bets. The odds can range anywhere from 38:1 to 38:6. The payouts can range from 35:1 to 5:1. There are different kinds of inside bets. One of these is known as straight up. With this sort of bet, chips are placed inside any numbered space to bet on one number. This bet may include the 0 or 00, depending upon the type of roulette wheel. In order to win, the ball must land on the number wagered. This kind of bet has a high risk associated with it. Usually the payout is 35:1.

Split bets are another variety of an inside bet. With this kind of bet, chips are placed on the line between two numbers. This means the wager is betting on both numbers. If the ball lands on either on, the player wins. Since this wager hinges on two numbers which makes the odds of winning improve, the payout is not as great as with a straight up bet. The payout is 17:1 with a split bet.

A step up from the split bet is the street bet. With this bet, the chips are placed at the end of a row. This means the wager pertains to all three numbers. Again, the risk is much lower with this type of inside bet. The payout reduces down to 11:1.
